Follow our handy tips to get the best from your candle
We want to get the most out of our candles, right? of course we do. So if you follow my handy tips you'll be sure to make the most out of your candles.
Did you know that wax has a memory? Ha! This is true, I'm not making this up. I didn't know this either until I started learning to make candles!!
Candle wax does indeed have a memory so when you light your wick for the very first time it will remember that first burn, fast forward every burn after that & your candle will burn to the exact same place!! This is called tunnelling. Now if you have ever wondered why your candles burn in the middle and not to the edges? That's the tunnelling. Next time you burn a candle for the first time be sure to burn it till the wax melts and reaches the edges of the glass container (usually a 4 hour burn) every burn after that will follow therefore allowing you to burn every part of the wax in your candle. Voila!
2. Always trim your wick before you light it. Ever notice your wick going black and bending slightly over? This is called mushrooming, this is not nice, it causing black soot into the atmosphere (yuk!) and leaves little black bits over your candle (messy!) So cut your wick!! kitchen scissors will do if you don't have a wick trimer.
3. Do not place you candle in the path of a draft, window or vent as this will give you that uneven burn. If this does happen wrap foil around your candle leaving a gap on the top & burn it allowing the wax to burn to the edges.
4. Candles can discolour, grow stale, collect dust & lose their scent all over time, so be sure to keep them away from direct sunlight & in a cool place, use them regularly they are there to be enjoyed!! Clean up any debris that gets into your candle (use tweezers!)
5. And finally.....Do place your candle on a heat resistant surface when you light it, you don't want to damage your furniture. Keep out of reach of children & pets too.
